IM Forwarding
IM Forwarding
IM Forwarding is a great way to keep your conversation flowing when you're on the move. If your phone is capable of text messaging, you can forward IMs to your mobile phone when you're away from your computer.
Reply to IMs by Text Messaging on Your Phone Most wireless carriers support the two-way IM Forwarding service. Just use your phone's reply function to respond to any forwarded IM. IM Forwarding is Easy to Turn On and OffThere are multiple places you can turn IM Forwarding On and Off, they include:
- "Mobile AIM® Service" settings under "Manage IM Forwarding," on the right hand side of this page.
- "View My Settings" at the top of the home page at mobile.aol.com. These settings are available once you register your phone and sign in
- Mobile settings in your computer AIM® client (version 6.5 or higher)
Once you've enabled IM Forwarding in your AIM® settings or through your Mobile settings at mobile.aol.com, your messages will be forwarded to your phone whenever you sign off at your computer or set your AIM® availability to "Mobile." When you sign off of AIM® on your computer, your availability will appear as "Mobile" instead of "Offline" to your buddies.
Manage Who Can Contact You When You're MobileYou choose who can reach you through IM Forwarding. In your settings, you can select:
- Buddies in your AIM® "Mobile Device" group
- All Buddies on your Buddy List®: Screen names on my buddy list
- Any AOL®/AIM® user who has your Screen Name
