T9® text input: Text faster, text further!
Are your thumbs tired of tap-tap-tapping to spell each letter in a word? With T9® text input you can create and send messages much faster than using multi-tap to type on your phone.
How T9® text input software makes things easier
T9® software combines the groups of letters found on each phone key with a fast-access dictionary of words, and recognizes what you want to text as you type. T9 text input offers the most commonly-used word for every key sequence you enter by default and then lets you access other choices with one or more presses of the NEXT key.

Quick Tips for T9® Text Input
- Get in the mode. First set your phone to T9 mode. If your phone has a text messaging menu, look for it there under names like “Predictive Text”, “Dictionary”, or “T9 Word”. It may also be one of the options that you cycle through when you switch from regular typing mode to numbers or symbols while typing a message.
- Take it easy. You only need one key tap per letter.
- Don’t worry. Ignore the word displayed on your screen until you are done entering text. Since T9 text input tries to find matching words as you type, the word you are entering may change as you press each key.
- Check out your options. If T9 displays a word that is not the one you’re looking for, press the NEXT key to scroll through the possible matches. The NEXT key position varies by phone model. It is usually the down arrow (on phones with that key), but could also be the #, *, +, or “0” (zero) keys.
- Spread the word. If you can’t find the word you want in T9 software’s dictionary, add it. Enter the word into multi-tap and then switch back to T9 text input mode so that T9 text input will know the word the next time you want to use it.
- Punctuate smart. To enter punctuation, press “1” in the middle of a word and type the rest. T9 knows you want an apostrophe. Press “1” at the end of a word and T9 adds a period.
