Recently, AOL Instant Messenger® or AIM®, has been the subject of a series of advanced IM Spam attacks. Often appearing from an unfamiliar Screen Name and containing a false financial stock tip, these Spam messages are exploiting mobile AIM functionality to reach phones as text messages.
We apologize to any mobile users who have received IM Spam text messages through AIM services. Our teams strive to continuously detect, prevent and eliminate such Spam attacks.
In most cases, text message recipients have also received a genuine system message from AIM. This system message is only sent after AIM detects that an IM text message has been sent to a mobile phone number for the first time. We provide this opt-out message to give new users the ability to stop text messages from the AIM service and learn more about mobile AIM features. Visit mobile.aol.com to manage who can IM you, establish quiet hours and explore other mobile AIM features.
If you were the unfortunate victim of an IM Spam attack, please understand that your phone number may have been targeted at random by a Spammer. AOL does not initiate any IM text messages with mobile phone numbers unless our system is responding to a first time IM text message as described above.

We appreciate the valuable feedback we have received on these recent IM Spam attacks.
